Photos from my November business trip to Alushta, Crimea, Ukraine

The off-season fog, and nearly deserted streets greeted my arrival.

I really was at the Black Sea!

The headlands are a bit reminiscent of...

The Alushta skyline

City hall, shrouded in fog.

I walked along Karl Marx street!

I visited many schools and organizations, including the art school which made this beautiful donor recognition banner

Distributing humanitarian aid is not childs play, as my colleague, Misha, points out.

But these kids think all is fun and games as they learn and play with their American Play Doh.

And these kindergarteners get serious about art with their new crayons.

The kindergartens that received water heaters are very grateful. (And I'm repeating my business trip mantra to myself: "I really have to pee and I don't really understand what's being said."

Nothing is official until it receives the official stamp.

I stayed at a sanatorium (Russian for resort) that is famous for hosting the Ukrainian president.

My last day in town was the anniversary of the begining of the Russian revolution. You can sort of see the red flags in the distance.

Bye, Alushta! I hope I'll be back for another visit.
